Description
One thing I read about Bonaventure Cemetery near Savannah GA was to do as the locals do and take a picnic to eat by the river. Maybe it's never too early for a picnic but since I had just had breakfast I just enjoyed the calm lazy early morning beauty and the evocative bygone feel. There is an irresistible pull as you drive or walk through the cemetery and you see a break in the tree cover. You know there is a river there and you are just drawn to it. This is the Wilmington River, a 17.3 mile long tidal river that flows along the east side of Savannah GA. The land is flat and the sky is big; you don't realize how big until you look at the buildings on the far shore! If you are lucky, you will remember to bring insect repellent so that you can enjoy it for that much longer.
